Teething

Teething

Sore gums show up on their own schedule, sometimes months before the first tooth does. Our teething toys for newborns and older babies are picked for that exact stretch, sized for little hands and safe to chew from day one. Everything here went through our own vetting first, and anything questionable never made it in. Keep one in the diaper bag, one near the car seat, and one at home, and the rough days get a little easier.

      Our Teething Toy Collection

A good teething toy calms the tears, soothes achy gums, and keeps a baby happily occupied, all at the same time. It also works as a sensory toy that builds fine motor skills with every grab and pass between hands. Tikiri's natural rubber animal friends double as a teether, rattle, and bath toy in one, while Oli & Carol turns fruits and veggies into chewable characters with a variety of textures to explore. Mushie brings soft silicone teething rings in muted, modern colors, Sophie la Girafe remains the classic first teether, and Grimm's and Haba add natural wooden grasping pieces that feel wonderful in small hands. Every piece here is free from the yuckies (aka: chemicals).

      Non-Toxic Materials

Every teething toy we carry is made with food-grade silicone, pure natural rubber, or untreated wood. Nothing here contains BPA, PVC, phthalates, or chemical softeners, so babies can mouth away freely.

      Safe by Design

Each piece is sized to be the perfect size for gripping without posing a choking hazard. Smooth, sealed surfaces mean no sharp edges, seams, or small parts to worry about.

      Textures That Soothe

Ridges, bumps, and soft nubs give gums different textures to press against, and that variety is what brings teething relief. Many pieces double as a sensory teether that keeps an infant engaged well past the fussy moments.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Around six months is typical, but we've seen the whole range in our Bozeman shop, including babies who cut a tooth in the 0-6 month window and others who stayed gummy right up to their first birthday. The drool usually gives it away before the tooth does. If nothing has come in by 18 months, bring it up with a pediatric dentist, mostly for peace of mind.

Food-grade silicone, natural rubber, and plain untreated wood are the three we trust. They hold up to months of hard chewing, and none of them need BPA, PVC, or phthalates to keep their shape. If a teether doesn't meet that bar, we don't carry it.

The safest teethers are molded as one solid piece, with nothing glued on that could work loose and no seams or sharp edges for a new tooth to catch. Size matters too. Anything small enough to fit entirely in the mouth doesn't belong in a baby's hands. Tikiri's rubber animals and the Oli & Carol fruits and veggies are built this way, which is a big part of why we stock so many of them.

Go light and soft. A newborn's grip gives out fast, so a heavy teether spends more time on the floor than in the mouth. The Mushie silicone rings and smaller Tikiri animals are easy for brand-new hands to hang onto, and a cooling ring teether earns its keep a few months later when the real teething pain starts.
